You Can't Rush A Good Biscuit
Ever had a day or week that just punched you in the gut? Maybe it was a work situation that didn't go the way you wanted, or a conversation that you wished had gone differently, or a deal that didn't get closed, or some issue with a family member or friend that couldn't be solved the way you had hoped, or fill in the ________________.
We've all had THAT kind of day or week.
When I have one, I try to do something I enjoy to alleviate the stress. For me it's a quick nine holes of golf, a walk, prayer, listening to my favorite playlists on Spotify, a chocolate milkshake, or cooking.
This week I checked off all of the above except for the chocolate milkshake! 😃
However, I must say that cooking seems to be my comfort zone. My dad and I spent a lot of time cooking together at our family cafe so cooking brings memories of good times and good food with someone I always enjoyed being with.

I like these things because to be enjoyed they can't be rushed.

One of my favorite things to cook is a simple biscuit. I mean, c'mon! Who doesn't enjoy a good biscuit?!
I love a good biscuit! It's amazing that three simple ingredients - flour, cold butter, and buttermilk - can come together to create something warm, buttery, soft, and oh - so good! I enjoy them alone or with any number of toppings - egg, bacon, fig or peach preserves, sausage, cheese, honey. Oh, and don't forget about the toasted cheese biscuits the next morning! Sigh.....
Hungry yet? Sorry.
This morning I cooked a half batch of biscuits, but a few things were different. The dough was too wet. It took me longer to cut the biscuits. My favorite pan was dirty so I used a high sided cast iron skillet which extended the cooking time. Yada, yada, yada. I was a little frustrated.
It dawned on me that in my haste to cook biscuits using shortcuts, it actually took more effort and more time than normal. And they weren't quite as good as they usually are.

You see, you can't rush a good biscuit.
I think the same things that go into making a good biscuit go into creating caring relationships with family and friends, growing children into adults, having meaningful conversations, striving for impactful outcomes at work, serving the community, etc.

It just takes the right ingredients, love, a tender touch, a little know how, and patience. But the outcome is worth it.
So, when you're having THAT kind of week, slow down and do something you enjoy. Your mind and body will thank you.
Mark 6:31 - And He said to them, "Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while." For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.
